Who are The Vamps?
You may not have heard of them yet – which is a shame really because they are becoming the UK’s hottest happening band since…..the last band that became the hottest happening band in the UK!
The reason you may not have heard of them is that they aren’t rising to fame the ‘traditional’ way. They haven’t been on any talent competitions, they weren’t ‘manufactured’ and they write their own songs and play their own instruments!
Brad Simpson is the lead singer, he also plays guitar, piano and ukulele……..What a show off 🙂 He hails from Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands.
James McVey is the lead guitarist and sings backing vocals. He comes from Bournemouth
Connor Ball, the bass guitarist was born in Aberdeen, Scotland but grew up in Birmingham.
Tristan Evans is the drummer in the band, he comes from Devon and he also plays guitar, piano and…….pans! (More about that later…………..)
They recently completed a sell-out tour of the USA and have almost 8 million followers on Twitter between them!
Social media has played a huge part in the Vamps’ success story.
James started as a solo artist but decided he wanted to put a band together. He found the other band members on Face book and You Tube. They befriended their first two hundred fans who promoted them on social media before they had a record deal. They are known as the ‘Superfans’ and have propelled them to stardom. They were instrumental in helping the Vamps’ You Tube channel to gain over 24 million views. James commented in one of his interviews:
“Our Superfans have done for us what no other marketing force in the world could have done.”
The band consider themselves to be extremely lucky because they ‘manufactured’ themselves and their management team allow them to remain in control – from their look to their production.
Their influences range from AC/DC, Blink 182, Arctic Monkeys to Taylor Swift and Paolo Nutini. Their first album ‘Meet the Vamps’ was, ironically kept off the top slot by………..Paolo Nutini!
They insist that they are not a ‘Boy band’ but a ‘Band of boys’ the difference being that they write and produce their own music.
Drummer, Tristan says that he was a hyperactive child so his parents bought him a drum kit so that he could ‘channel his energy’. After watching the Vamps I can confirm that he is now a hyperactive adult! He has his own little show going on in the background with his ‘stick twirling’ and ‘head banging’. He can even make cooking utensils sound good! Here’s the evidence:
They have well and truly mastered the art of song writing and they put on a very lively and energetic show which explains why they have already supported the likes of McFly, Taylor Swift, The Wanted and Selena Gomez.
They are also headlining this year’s Blackpool illuminations switch on concert so the town will be lit up long before Tim Burton flicks the switch.
