The Girl on Christopher street is a simply wonderful and poignant story of love at first sight, the kind of story Hollywood movies are made of. I was hooked from the very first time I heard it.
Love can be powerful and a bolt from the blue and for me this line from the song sums that up beautifully “She had a way of making me feel like starting again, leaving a life in the Ayrshire hills for a city full of big ideas, how can I feel like this when I don’t even know her name”
The lyrics transport you there and bring the story to life so perfectly it makes it easy to imagine and visualise it all unfolding. Not that you’ll have to as Sean went back to NYC a few months ago to shoot the accompanying video for it.
Starting off slowly the song moves into a pacier mood with a toe tapping beat, melodic guitars and a solid hooky chorus. It’s a bit of a poppier track than you may be used to hearing from him but it’s still distinctly Sean with first rate songwriting abilities, quality musician skills and those unique lilting vocals that give more than a hint of the Nashville influences that we have come to love and associate with him.
What makes this song all the more touching is it’s a true story, Sean lived and experienced these emotions and thoughts after a chance encounter with a girl he saw in the audience while he was performing in NYC. It left such and impression on him he had to write this song about it….it doesn’t get much more romantic than that in my book folks!
